For the Harrisburg High School cheer team, Cheer for a Cure was about much more than competition.
The event became a season-long effort focused on supporting members of the school community who are battling serious illnesses.
In the weeks leading up to the competition, the cheer team collected donations at home games. During halftime, cheerleaders walked through the stands with donation buckets, speaking with fans and collecting contributions from families, students and community members.
No matter the amount, every donation made a difference.
Along the way, many people shared encouraging words and personal stories with the team, reminding them why the fundraiser mattered.
The effort did not stop at athletic events. During the school day, cheerleaders also visited classrooms and hallways with donation buckets, encouraging classmates and teachers to contribute.
The entire school community came together to support two students and one teacher from Harrisburg High School who are currently facing serious health challenges.
Seeing that level of support made the experience especially meaningful for the team.
Cheer for a Cure ultimately became about more than fundraising. It was an opportunity to use school spirit to support others and bring the community together.
By the end of the effort, the team had raised money, spread awareness and demonstrated the strength of the Harrisburg community when people come together for a shared cause.
