As testing season approaches, students at Harrisburg High School are participating in an ACT preparation program designed to build skills early and reduce stress later.
The program is required for freshmen, sophomores and juniors to help prepare them for the PreACT and the ACT.
Preparation sessions are held during advisory on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays. During that time, teachers guide students through lessons that focus on science, math, reading and English. The goal is to help students become familiar with the format of the test while strengthening academic skills they will need in the future.
By introducing ACT preparation as early as freshman year, the program allows students to gradually improve without feeling overwhelmed. Advisory sessions include practice questions, skill-building exercises and short reviews that fit into the regular school day.
Many students say the program will be helpful as they get closer to taking the ACT.
Junior Aja Grather said the structured practice has helped her feel more prepared.
“I feel like the ACT prep is a good way to slowly get us prepared for the test,” Grather said.
Overall, the ACT prep program aims to give students a strong academic foundation and consistent practice so they feel more confident when taking the PreACT and eventually the ACT.
