Students in the Future Educators Club attended a conference in Bloomington Friday, March 15. According to those who attended, this conference was a good opportunity to experience what it might be like becoming an educator.

“The Future Educators Club is a good opportunity for students who want to become teachers,” senior Tessa Harrison said. “Even though the club is new for everyone, the club sponsors have still been able to plan multiple trips for us.”

Senior Regen Arnett added that they have already gone to other schools to help teachers be organized.

“We went to SIU to take lessons according to what we are most interested in,” Arnett said. “Also, the conference was a good opportunity to see how it will be in the future as an educator.”

Harrison added that there were multiple speakers who shared their personal experience as a woman in education and talked about what it’s like to be a leader.

“I saw the Well Summit as an opportunity to meet other women who are or are aspiring to become educators. Overall, it was about finding a community among women,” senior Khoal Goodson said.

Goodson added that her desire to become an educator is stronger than ever and by  being surrounded by so many welcoming women has shown her the power of sisterhood.

“This conference was to get women educators together to learn from one another. It is mainly for adults but this year they had selected students. We had a private lesson to talk about ourselves and what we want to do with our lives,” Arnett said.

These three students were the only attendees from Harrisburg High School.

The students agreed that this experience has furthered their interest in becoming an educator. “It was cool to see so many women who were all passionate about the same thing, and  it made me excited to become a teacher and hopefully attend more events like this one,” Harrison said.
