Jeremy Chinn, a former standout at Southern Illinois University, is making a name for himself on the Washington Commanders’ defense. Chinn, who played for the Salukis from 2016 to 2019, racked up 243 tackles, 31 passes defensed, 13 interceptions, six forced fumbles, and two fumble recoveries during his college career.
Drafted by the Carolina Panthers in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Chinn spent three seasons in Carolina before signing with the Commanders this offseason. His impact in Washington has been immediate.
The 26-year-old safety has been a key player as the Commanders made an unexpected run to the playoffs. Chinn turned in a standout performance in the first round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, totaling eight tackles. But it was the following week, against the top-seeded Detroit Lions, where Chinn truly shined, recording 12 tackles and an interception in Washington’s huge upset to advance to the NFC Championship Game.
Now, with the NFC Championship on the line, Chinn is hoping to continue his stellar play and help the Commanders upset the Philadelphia Eagles and secure their first Super Bowl appearance since 1991.
For a player who came from a small school, Chinn’s rise to prominence is a testament to his talent and work ethic. His future in Washington’s secondary looks bright, and he has more than earned his place in the NFL spotlight.
