Hats for Hospice, an event supported by White Hats and Key Club, raises money for individuals in hospice care.
Heather Mandrell, an English teacher and three-year sponsor of White Hats, organized the event with assistance from both White Hats and Key Club.
“White Hats is a service club, so Hats for Hospice is one of the many events held throughout the year to benefit the community,” Mandrell said. “The event will last this week, and Friday is Hat Day.”
The funds raised assist individuals in the Southern Illinois area.
“The money raised through Hats for Hospice goes to Hospice of Southern Illinois,” Mandrell said. “This organization provides comfort to those suffering from an illness in their final days. Another benefit of Hospice of SoIL is that the funds remain in Southern Illinois.”
A hat ticket can be purchased for $1, and students can wear their hat of choice throughout the school day.
“Hats for Hospice is a fundraiser to raise money for families in need of hospice care in their homes,” said Allison Moyer, a three-year White Hats member and senior. “Students can participate by buying a sticker and wearing their hats on Friday.”
For those who wish to purchase a ticket to support individuals in need of hospice care, tickets are sold near the English wing. Students who purchase tickets will also have their names drawn in a raffle for gift cards.
“It is important for students to participate in Hats for Hospice because it supports families in need of hospice care in their homes and communities,” Moyer said.
